VEF Delegation to Visit Vietnam


December 13,2002--A delegation of the VEF Board of Directors will visit Vietnam from December 15-23 to meet with Vietnamese Government officials, university officials, educators, and private sector individuals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho to discuss Vietnam's education needs in the fields of science, mathematics,medicine (including Public Health), and technology.
 
The Vietnam Education Foundation will provide annual funding of $5 million until 2019 for a scholarship program in the above fields. VEF will fund scholarship Vietnamese nationals residing in Vietnam to study at the graduate level in the United States. VEF will also fund US citizens teaching and research in the designated fields in Vietnam.

Chung W. Kim - President of Korea Institute for Advanced Study
Marilyn Pattillo - Gerontologic Nurse Practitioner at the University of Texas
Tuan Joseph Pham - President and CEO of Capital Development Company
Deborah Crane - Department of the Treasury
John Lawrence - Staff Director of House Committee on Education and the Workforce - U.S. Congress

The visit of the delegation is being organized by the U.S. Embassy and the Fulbright Economics Training Program under the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Khiem.
