February 22, 2006--VEF announced its 2006 Fellowship Program for applicants who have gained official university admissions on their own to leading U.S graduate schools for Fall 2006 in science and technology fields.

The online application will be available from February 22 to March 15, 2006 at www.vef.gov. This year, VEF is particularly interested in applicants who have been admitted to top U.S. graduate programs in the basic sciences of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.

Mr. Kien Pham, Executive Director of VEF, said, "This is an important component of our fellowship program because it rewards young Vietnamese who gain admissions to top American universities on their own initiative." He continued "We would like to move towards having all our Fellows secure their own admissions to American universities so they can share that experience with younger Vietnamese."

The VEF Fellowship application and selection process is open, competitive, and transparent. Applicants do not need to pay any fees to anyone in order to apply or be considered for a VEF Fellowship. Winners are chosen based on individual merit, including academic performance, intellectual capabilities, English communication skills, and the potential for scientific contribution to education and research.

VEF is an independent U.S. Federal Agency created by the U.S. Congress to help strengthen science and technology in Vietnam through educational exchange and capacity building. During the last three years, VEF has selected and placed more than 150 Fellows at top graduate schools across the United States. VEF Fellows are studying in a wide range of science and technology fields, including mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, and computer science at prestigious universities such as MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Princeton, University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, and Michigan.
