9th Annual VEF Fellows and Visiting Scholars Conference
From January 3-5, 2012 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF), in cooperation with Louisiana State University Health, Shreveport (LSU Health), convened the 9th Annual Conference for over 150 VEF Fellows, Visiting Scholars who are studying and doing academic training in the United States and U.S. Faculty Scholars, who are teaching at Vietnamese universities either on site in Vietnam or via video conference. The main theme of this conference was "Connecting the Dots: The International Journey to Cooperation and Collaboration," which was reflected through many meaningful activities, including motivational talks, networking, and "All the Ways Home" sessions. The Career Development Workshops and Presentations were opportunities for VEF Fellows and Scholars to discuss and share their start-up experiences as well as gain practical skills and knowledge in various areas, such as communication and networking, entrepreneur leadership, job search strategies, etc. In addition, academic and recreational activities were held to enhance the connection among the participants.
During the conference, the following keynote speakers from Vietnam and the United States gave presentations sharing their valuable experiences about leadership, entrepreneurship, career development, and working opportunities in Vietnam:

- H.E. Cuong Quoc Nguyen, Ambassador, Embassy of Vietnam to the United States
- Dr. Anh Ngoc Chu, Vice Minister, Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology
- Dr. Vang Xuan Nguyen, Director General of the Vietnam International Education Department, Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training
- Dr. Robert Barish, Chancellor, Louisiana State University Health, Shreveport
- Dr. Vicent Marsala, Chancellor, Louisiana State University, Shreveport
- Dr. Thong Trung Do, VEF Alumnus, Cohort 2004, Postdoctoral Researcher, Army Research Laboratory
Furthermore, a Poster Session was organized with multiple scientific presentations by the VEF Fellows and Visiting Scholars introducing their research activities.
This year's Annual Conference offered a valuable opportunity for professional career development, networking, and scientific discussions to the participants.
