Quyen D. Chu, M.D., M.B.A.

Quyen D. Chu, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S. is currently a tenured professor of surgery, the Charles Knight, Sr. Endowed Professor of Surgery, director of the peritoneal surface malignancies program, and chief of surgical oncology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-Shreveport (LSUHSC-S), Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Dartmouth College, received his medical doctorate from Brown University, surgical training at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed a surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York in 2001.

Dr. Chu has received several awards and honors. He is a member of the Sigma Xi Honor Society, the Dartmouth Scholars Award, Brown University / Bank of America Community Fellows Awards, and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2009-2010 Leadership Development Program, and the recipient of the 2012 American College of Surgeons Japan Travelling Fellow Award. He has also been named by USA Today as one of the “Most Influential Doctors” in 2009 and 2010, and U.S. News & World Report Top Doctors in 2013.  He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers/abstracts and is editing a textbook on surgical oncology, “Surgical Oncology:  A Practical Approach”.  He serves on the editorial board of numerous prestigious journals and a frequent reviewer for many other surgical journals.  Also, he serves on the publication committees of the Society of University Surgeon as well as the Association of Academic Surgery, two of the most prestigious surgical societies. Dr. Chu also is a member of the Southern Surgical Association, serves on the Governing Council of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Young Fellows Association, and serves as the Chair of the Education, Quality and Communications Subcommittee of the International Relations Committee of the ACS Board of Governors. He is also actively involved with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO).  He is currently the program director for the ASCO/HVO Oncology Program in Vietnam.

Dr. Chu is also passionately involved with strengthening the ties between America and Vietnam.  He was awarded the U.S. Faculty Scholar Award twice in consecutive years from the Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF).

Dr. Chu is a co-founder of the Louisiana World Surgical Foundation, INC, a non-profit organization that assists developing nations with capacity building. He has traveled abroad to Southeast Asia, Central America, and Middle East, rendering surgical care. He has successfully edited a Vietnamese translation of the World Health Organization book, “Surgical Care at a District Hospital.
